“Purpose” as a Natural Feature of the Universe part3

Many Chinese and Japanese acupuncturists (possibly out of a desire to “prove” the existence of chi to skeptical Westerners) have invented all sorts of electrical technological gadgetry to monitor the flow of chi through the meridians and to precisely locate the acupuncture points. So although chi cannot be perceived directly, its presence can be detected by a meter that monitors electrical activity.

Michael could perceive, as he spoke with his new friends, that their admiration and appreciation for TEACHER were very great.

After lunch, Michael lay on his back in the shade of the oak tree and rested for twenty or thirty minutes. At one point he was momentarily asleep, but soon awoke. For the last several minutes, as he lay there relaxing, he considered his decision earlier that morning to come and inquire from TEACHER and felt that he had made the right choice. To some degree, he felt that his understanding was clearing up-not in the sense of grasping the overall picture, of course, but at least in reference to the points they had discussed that morning.

The air was fairly still, and as Michael considered thusly, he heard the door to the veranda open and then shut. He sat up at once and saw TEACHER standing by his chair, smiling at him. Michael stood, stretched, and then headed for the veranda. As some of TEACHER's students approached, Michael noticed that they offered their respects to him by bowing and touching their foreheads to the ground.

“Are you rested?” TEACHER inquired as Michael sat on the edge of the veranda and leaned against the railing.

“Yes, thank you. And also very satisfied by the meal.”

“In that case, let us pick up where we left off. Let us consider the causal proof. At the very least, this proof is intimately connected with the argument from design, if not a component part of it.”

“If you are familiar with this argument, Michael, please state it as best you can understand it.”
