The Moral Proof part1

Only one who can learn the process of nescience and that of transcendental knowledge side by side can transcend the influence of repeated birth and death and enjoy the full blessing of immortality.
  ~Sri Ishopanishad, Mantra Eleven
Some neophytes on the spiritual path may fall into the illusion that taking care of the body is somehow evil, or a sign of spiritual backwardness. Not only may they neglect the needs of the body, but they may go out of their way to actually damage the body. Such people actually hate the body. They see it as a source of misery, and thus they take out their anger on it. This is certainly a mistake.

MICHAEL: But what if it makes me feel better to mitigate the pain of others and relieve their suffering?

TEACHER: My point is that you cannot explain why it should make you feel better to help others without reference, at the very least, to a natural sense of goodness within you. Now, this natural sense of goodness cannot be adequately explained by evolution, instinct, survival benefit, etc. It is explainable most naturally in reference to a Supreme Being who has endowed each of us with a sense of goodness, although, of course, we may go against it.

MICHAEL: So the fact that each of us has some sense of morality, goodness, justice, etc., points to the existence of an absolute good or absolute morality? And this in turn can only be explained in terms of an absolutely moral being, i.e., God?22

TEACHER: Yes, that's the point. Although atheists may act in a “moral” or “just” manner and offer numerous social benefits for doing so, they can't really point to a cause for that tendency to be moral.

Now let us summarize some of the main principles of the cosmological proofs, adding additional arguments if the opportunity presents itself, and examining the conclusions of our conversation up to this point. Although I won't be so brazen as to declare that we can build up a better argument than our predecessors, or even, at this point, one that establishes God's existence and good qualities, I would think that we could certainly develop a good springboard from which to launch ourselves into even more fruitful investigations.
