Why does a person claim ownership of a thing or of another person? To control it or them. And why does he want to control it? Usually because he wants to be the enjoyer of it.
Science of Identity Foundation – Chris Butler Speaks
The Ascending ProcessTEACHER: The ascending process is essentially empirical, and the descending process is by revelation. The ascending system is so named because those who employ it have the idea that by the power of their own minds they can raise themselves up, or ascend, to the level of perfect understanding. By their own strength, they hope to understand the Absolute Truth. These persons are able to see that at the present moment they are covered by ignorance or illusion, and are thus unable to understand the Absolute Truth. Having faith in their own mental strength, however, and their own ability to know and understand things, they feel that by their own power they can lift themselves up to the level where they can know everything. More or less, they are trying to climb the ladder of spiritual understanding by their own strength. This mentality is exemplified not only by a great number of philosophers and theologians, but by many modern scientists as well.
MICHAEL: And you feel that this process has built-in limitations?
TEACHER: Yes, and because of those limitations, one cannot gain a really clear understanding of the Absolute Truth.
MICHAEL: What are the limitations that you speak of?
