There is enough in the world to fulfill everyone’s needs, but not enough to fulfill everyone’s greed. In some parts of the world, people are dying from severe undernourishment, while in other parts of the world people are dying from obesity.
Science of Identity Foundation – Chris Butler Speaks
MICHAEL: Well, I could probably not learn everything, of course, but I could learn a great deal. I could follow you around, observe your activities, or even hire a private detective to try to uncover things about your past. Also, I could inquire about you from people who know you.
TEACHER: Even with these methods, you would run into great difficulty. My friends, for example, would not be inclined to help you if they knew it was against my desire. Still, let us allow that you were able to achieve, by the processes you mentioned, the maximum degree of success that they would allow-and this is a very generous allowance. You would still not be able to know my most private and intimate self, would you? You could only gain such information if I myself were to give it to you.
Now, I’m just one tiny soul and my power and will are proportionately limited. But God’s power, even if we only consider it in terms of His creative potencies as manifested here in this universe, is vast beyond our estimation. If I cannot be well understood against my will, how much more so is this same principle applicable to Him?
To strengthen my argument, I’d like to point out, Michael, that the degree of information you can acquire about me against my will is far greater than that which you can understand about God against His. For one thing, you can perceive my form with your senses, and can observe my activities. You also know where I live and can find out without too much trouble who I associate with. Can you say the same of God? Is it possible for you to hire a private detective to observe Him? Or to follow Him around, taking note of where He goes and whom He sees?
MICHAEL: No. It seems that my senses would fail me in this regard.
TEACHER: Therefore, it is quite reasonable to conclude that no one can see Him or know Him unless He desires that person to. It’s not that I can ascend to God on the strength of my acquired knowledge and know Him whether He likes it or not, just because I want to. No matter how much knowledge I may have, because He is all-powerful, and not me, if He doesn’t want me to know Him, then I won’t be able to.
