Science of Identity Foundation - Janmastami Celebrations in Hawaii Honor Birth of Lord Krishna

Posted on August 31, 2016

KAILUA, Hawaii, Aug. 31, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Thursday marked one of the most important Hindu festivals of the year. Known as Janmastami, it was the celebration of the appearance of Lord Krishna, who appeared on earth 5,000 years ago.

This special occasion is celebrated by devotees of Lord Krishna across the country and around the world, including right here in Hawaii. There were formal and informal gatherings, including worship in temples and homes on all islands.

According to Jeannie Bishop (Jamuna dasi) of the Science of Identity Foundation, "Janmastami is my favorite day of the year. We gather together with friends and family. The day is filled with hearing stories of Lord Krishna's appearance, pastimes, and teachings; and practicing Kirtan, which is the singing and chanting of God's names. The celebrations culminate in midnight offerings of vegetarian foodstuffs to Lord Krishna."

Jasmine Sarns (Jagannath dasi) celebrated with her family in Kailua. "There are many people throughout Hawaii, and all over the country and world, who are celebrating the birthday of Lord Krishna today, just like we are here in our home with our family and friends."

Who is Lord Krishna
Lord Krishna appeared on earth 5,000 years ago and spoke the Bhagavad-Gita, a yoga scripture that is studied and revered by hundreds of millions of Hindus around the world. Lord Krishna is accepted by Vaishnava Hindus as the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the Cause of all Causes, the Original Person. God has countless names and is full of all good qualities; therefore, He is referred to as "Krishna" or "He who is All-Attractive."
